Jungkook’s Dog. Is it Really a Doberman?

Introducing Jungkook and His Dog

Jungkook is a member of the hugely popular K-pop group BTS. With his boyish good looks and smooth vocals, Jungkook has helped propel BTS to global stardom. Known by fans as the “Golden Maknae” of the group, Jungkook is beloved for his talent and charming personality.

Jungkook has long had a love for dogs. He previously owned a pet dog named Gureum, who sadly passed away in 2017. After a period of mourning Gureum’s loss, Jungkook decided to adopt a new canine companion to bring joy back into his life.

In 2018, Jungkook introduced ARMY (the name for BTS’ fanbase) to his new puppy, a reddish-brown dog he named Bam. While clearly a large breed dog, Jungkook did not initially identify what specific breed Bam was. This left many fans wondering – is Jungkook’s dog really a Doberman?

The Doberman Breed

The Doberman Pinscher originated in Germany in the late 1800s. The breed was first developed by Louis Dobermann, a tax collector who wanted a dog to protect him in his dangerous job (source). Doberman Pinschers are believed to be a mixture of many dog breeds, including the Rottweiler, Black and Tan Terrier, and German Pinscher.

Dobermans have a sleek, muscular, and athletic build. They have a very short, smooth coat that is black, dark red, blue, or fawn in color. Their ears are often cropped for a pointy, erect appearance. Dobermans typically stand 24 to 28 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 60 to 80 pounds (source).

The Doberman Pinscher is known for being alert, fearless, loyal and intelligent. They bond very closely with their owners and make excellent guard dogs. However, they require a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. With proper socialization and training, Dobermans can be gentle, affectionate companion dogs despite their intimidating appearance (source).

Jungkook’s Dog’s Appearance

Jungkook’s dog, named Bam, is a black and tan dog with a slender build and short, sleek coat. Based on photos and videos that Jungkook has shared, Bam has the typical colors and markings of a Doberman Pinscher, including the rust-colored markings above his eyes, on his muzzle, chest, legs and paws. His ears stand upright, like those of most Dobermans. His body and head shape also closely resemble that of the Doberman breed, with a long slender snout, wedged-shaped head, lean and muscular frame, and cropped tail.

The Doberman Pinscher is known for its short, smooth coat that shows off the muscular physique underneath. According to the American Kennel Club, common colors for the Doberman include black, red, blue, and fawn, with rust-colored markings above the eyes, on the muzzle, throat, forechest, legs, and feet being required (Pinterest). This aligns closely with Bam’s primarily black coat with tan/rust accents. His build and coat are very typical for the breed.

Based on his physical attributes, Bam strongly resembles a purebred Doberman Pinscher in both his coloring and structure. His appearance aligns closely with the breed standards for Dobies in terms of his coloring, muscular build, wedge-shaped head, and cropped tail and ears (Pinterest). So in appearance alone, Jungkook’s dog could certainly pass for a Doberman Pinscher.

Examining the Evidence

When Jungkook first introduced his dog Bahm on the show In the Soop 2 in October 2021, many fans immediately assumed the dog was a Doberman based on his appearance. Dobermans typically have a sleek, muscular build with a wedge-shaped head, cropped ears, and a docked tail. Bahm shares many of these characteristics, leading many to conclude he is a Doberman Pinscher.

However, upon closer examination, there are a few key differences between Bahm and a typical Doberman. Most noticeably, Bahm has natural, uncropped ears and a long, undocked tail. His build also seems slightly less stocky and muscular than a standard Doberman (Koreaboo). This has led to speculation that he may be a Doberman mix rather than a purebred Doberman Pinscher.

Jungkook himself has never explicitly confirmed Bahm’s breed, simply referring to him as his “pretty puppy” and talking about how much he loves him. In a behind-the-scenes video, Jungkook explained: “His name is Bam. I got him recently. I’ve only had him for a month.” He did not comment on the breed (Koreaboo).

Among fans, there is much debate regarding Bahm’s breed. Some insist he is a full Doberman, while others argue he must be a mix. Most fans seem to agree that his sweet, playful personality shines through regardless of his breed.

Other Possible Breeds

While many fans initially speculated that Jungkook’s dog was a Doberman Pinscher, there are some other breeds that share similarities in appearance. According to PetHelpful, some dogs like the Beauceron, English Toy Terrier, and Miniature Pinscher can resemble Dobermans.

The Beauceron in particular bears a striking resemblance to Jungkook’s dog. As described by Hepper, Beaucerons have a similar black and tan coat, muscular build, and cropped ears like Dobermans. The main difference is Beaucerons are usually larger than Dobermans. Jungkook’s dog appears to be on the smaller side, so it could potentially be a mix between a Doberman and a Beauceron or other similar breed.

Given the uncertainty around the breed, some fans think Jungkook’s dog might be a mix. It’s possible the dog has Doberman lineage combined with another breed. Without an exact confirmation from Jungkook, the breed remains open to speculation. But the consensus seems to be that the dog resembles a Doberman, whether purebred or mixed.

The Consensus Among Fans

Most fans seem to agree that Jungkook’s dog Bam is a Doberman breed. This is based on several references to Bam as a Doberman in official BTS content and profiles, as well as his physical appearance being typical of the breed. For example, Bam is described as a Doberman on his profile on the BTS Wiki.

Additionally, many fans point to Bam’s appearance as evidence that he is a full-blooded Doberman Pinscher. He has the slender build, flat head, cropped ears and docked tail that are characteristic of the Doberman breed. His coat coloring is also common for Dobermans, with the classic black and tan markings.

However, there has been some debate within the fandom about whether Bam could be a Doberman mix. A few fans think his muzzle shape and size suggest he may not be purebred. But this is a minority opinion, as most fans seem very convinced he is a full Doberman based on his looks and BTS profile descriptions.

Does the Breed Really Matter?

Jungkook’s fans care deeply about him and his dog, so it’s understandable that many are curious about the dog’s breed. However, some take the obsession with figuring out the breed too far. While genetics undoubtedly influence a dog’s appearance and behavior, the breed label itself is not as important as how the dog is raised and cared for.

According to a source, “Jungkook’s sweet bond with his dog is what really matters, not the breed” (Rover-Time). Responsible dog ownership involves providing proper training, socialization, exercise, nutrition, and veterinary care. Breed traits may inform those needs, but they do not define a dog’s potential. With dedication, any dog can become a great companion.

Rather than fixating on breed guesses, fans should celebrate Jungkook for adopting and creating a loving home for his dog. The obsessive speculation distracts from more pressing issues like shelter pet adoption and puppy mills. Jungkook sets a positive example to use one’s platform to encourage adoption, not shopping for trendy purebreds. Our society must move past breed stereotypes and value dogs as individuals.

Jungkook’s Bond with His Dog

It’s clear from various videos and interviews that Jungkook absolutely adores his dog Bam. Fans often refer to Bam as Jungkook’s “son” because of how lovingly he cares for him. In videos from In the Soop season two, Jungkook can be seen cuddling and playing with Bam, and Bam follows him everywhere he goes.

In one compilation video of their time together in In the Soop, Jungkook says “Bam is so cute” and “Bam is the most precious thing in my life” as he pets and hugs him (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpJdVUBZ6cM). Jungkook brings Bam with him wherever he can, even overseas during BTS’ concerts. He clearly wants Bam by his side as much as possible.

There are many sweet anecdotes from fans who have met Jungkook and Bam together. They describe how gentle, patient, and affectionate Jungkook is with him. It’s clear that Bam helps provide comfort and companionship during Jungkook’s busy life as an idol. Their bond seems very strong and loving.

The Verdict

After examining the available evidence, it seems clear that Jungkook’s dog is most likely a Doberman. Several key pieces of evidence point to this conclusion:

Jungkook has openly stated in interviews that he loves Dobermans, calling them his “favorite” breed. In one video interview with Grammys Korea in 2018, when asked about his ideal type of dog, Jungkook definitively states “Doberman”. This reveals his personal preference for the breed.

Additionally, images of Jungkook with his dog Bam show a puppy with distinct physical traits associated with Dobermans. These include a slender but muscular build, cropped ears, and a short, smooth coat that is primarily black with some brown accents. Visually, Bam aligns very closely with the Doberman look.

While some fans have speculated Bam may be a mix, Jungkook has never indicated this himself. The preponderance of evidence based on his statements, Bam’s appearance, and Jungkook’s known fondness for the breed leads to the conclusion that yes, Jungkook’s dog is likely a Doberman.

The Importance of Adopt Don’t Shop

While some fixate on the breed of dogs like celebrities own, what’s more important is that stars like Jungkook are setting a positive example by adopting rescue animals rather than buying from breeders or pet stores. According to Insider, many celebrities have made the compassionate choice to adopt dogs and cats in need of a home. This sends a powerful message that rescue pets deserve love and care just as much as purebred dogs.

Jungkook adopting his dog, regardless of its breed, encourages his fans to consider doing the same. Rather than contributing to irresponsible breeding or puppy mills just to have a specific dog breed, Jungkook shows that what matters most is giving an animal in need a loving forever home. With millions of dogs ending up in shelters each year, celebrity adoption stories help shine a light on adopt don’t shop. Stars like Jungkook who choose rescue set a standard that fans and followers can emulate.
